Being born and raised in Victoria, British Columbia, I can tell you that the scars of this moral panic have not gone away. Even in the 2000's and the 2010's, there were documentaries on Hell and demons. I was born in 2000, so all of these stories from the Satanic Panic are not new to me.

Great work sir :). Having made a few spagyric preparations myself, I enjoyed watching. In some spagyric procedures, the macerated herbs are separated from the tincture, burned (calcinated) to white ash, then that white ash is dissolved in water, purified into salts, and then those salts are added back to the final distillate. Chemically speaking, these salts would be potassium, magnesium, and calcium carbonates/hydroxides. From what I've read this was sort of a prescriptive method used for "strengthening" the final product, however, other than absorbing some water and boosting the alcohol percentage, it would really depend on how the salt would interact with the various oils and compounds from the plant that made it across the distillation. Anyway, I find it fascinating and it most certainly is the precursor to Rx pharma; the ability to transform natures chemicals into different forms. As for the mercury, well some alchemists refer to ethanol as mercury in that it exemplifies the mercurial principle, so your antique recipes may or may not have been calling for element 80 aka "quicksilver". For anyone that has read this far, I would recommend looking into Darren Thomas and Steve Kalec, and Avery Hopkins, among other modern practicing alchemists. Some of us dropped off the radar because the great work is just figuring out how to pay the bills 😅. Cheers 🥂

I'm quite late to the party but man am I glad you did this, I have some running theories that had some large gaps in them surrounding Lilith and this has certainly helped in developing a better understanding of the archetype so thank you. I was concerned that I was going to be getting modern watered down and twisted "history" if I tried to do the research through Google but since you apear to be a human with their soul still intact you are already 1000 times more credible lol.

It's very interesting the back and forth between the inquisition and the state. How sometimes the state would force out the inquisition if they were being a bit extra. And how the inquisition wanted to clamp down on the state wanting to execute people. Im so curious if I was a secular ruler how I would have reacted to heresy and the inquisition.
